It’s understandable that visitors to Harrogate often spend their days outdoors, admiring the gorgeous scenery that surrounds this North Yorkshire town. After all, there are so many things to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales. But when the sun goes down and you’re looking for an entertaining way to spend the evening, a live music pub makes a refreshing change. There are a number of fun and welcoming live music venues in Harrogate and Knaresborough, to suit all tastes and budgets.
  1. Blues Café Bar - Harrogate
This iconic café bar is renowned amongst ‘musos’ right across the UK. They have live music every evening, plus afternoons on Sundays. Although a blues bar, the acts cover a range of genres, from rock to reggae. Upstairs, the Green Room serves food, as well as an array of different gins and cocktails. The Blues Bar is one of those pubs where you can go in on your own, and instantly start up conversations with complete strangers.
  2. Harrogate Theatres - Harrogate
Okay, so not technically a pub, but you can take drinks from the bar to your seat. Harrogate Theatre, the Royal Hall and the Harrogate Convention Centre host some amazing music acts, e.g., Chris Rea, Roy Wood, Robert Cray and Jools Holland. They also include some of the best tribute acts around, such as Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and The Bon Jovi Experience.
  3. Hales Bar - Harrogate
Hales Bar is the oldest pub in Harrogate, having started life as an inn during the 1700s. They have preserved some of the fixtures and fittings from the Victorian period, including gas lighting, mirrors and cigar lighters. The entertainment goes from the relaxing acoustic sessions on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, to karaoke on Thursday evenings, as well as raucous party nights Fridays and Saturdays.
  4. Harrogate Brasserie - Harrogate
Nope, this isn’t a pub either, but this bar/restaurant/hotel deserves a mention for all the jazz lovers out there. Together with an impressive menu of tasty dishes using with local produce, they have talented jazz acts seven nights a week. Nice.
  5. Montey’s Rock Café – Harrogate
This award-winning cocktail bar and live music venue in Harrogate has popular, local bands on most weekends. While the emphasis is on rock, they do throw in a pinch of ska for extra flavour.
  6. Cross Keys, Knaresborough
Tim and Angie offer visitors the warmest of welcomes to their real-ale pub near Harrogate. Every Saturday night they offer a wide range of musical talent, together with a delicious array of proper ale, to keep punters amused. And if you’re into your two-tone or punk, the Teenage Kicks Sound System disco will spin your favourite playlist on occasional Sundays.
Whether you like your music nostalgic, or you’re into original talent, Harrogate should have something to oblige. This is just one reason why Harrogate is such a popular destination of choice when booking a short break in Yorkshire.
