(1) be aware that these experience or overnight stay packages you see all over arn't always as good a deal as they seem -ie very restricted date use and not weekends. These companies charge the hotel or venue about 40% commission which is why they only take them off peak - you can ring a hotel or venue direct and buy a gift voucher from them which will give you much better value for the same money.

(2) Sign up for whatever free point schemes are going - they are all on phone apps and if you do buy coffee remember your reusable cup for a discount or for example Nero gives you extra bonus points. Pret does a monthly scheme if you need coffee and wifi - or shop around for a local who might do something similar.

(3) make sure you get all the coupons and discounts you can - Tesco do personalised Vouchers (ie things you actually buy), as do Co-op, Waitrose and nectar points with Sainsburys (don't forget Nectal also links up with Ebay so you can get points even on auctions and second hand items.
