We are replacing or have replaced all our light bulbs with energy saving ones and considering that each bedroom has approximately 10 light bulbs
this is a considerable difference.
this is a considerable difference.
- We are replacing our appliances with new and more energy saving versions for example we bought an A rated Dishwasher which with our usual usage being 3 loads a day we hope this will make a difference.
- We have bought a cold water only Washing Machine to cut down on energy used.
- We have finished replacing all windows with A rated double glazed sliding sash equivalents to retain the character of our 106 year old building while making a considerable energy saving.
- We have also introduced a towel re-using policy which helps with energy used to wash them and dry them. Millions of towels are washed unnecessarily because people either don't reuse them or the chamber maid simply can't tell which towels have been used or not so has to launder them all. We simply ask that used towels are put in the shower and ones clean are left on the bed.
- As we move towards the digital switchover we are replacing our tv's with flatscreens taking care to look for ones which are energy efficient. We are making sure to turn televisions off when they are not in use.
- We are working with local trade associations to help promote shopping local for example we use a local butcher who is in the next street and he sources all his meat locally also. This means we are also saving transport costs.
- We only use Yorkshire Tea who are a local company who are dedicated to saving the rainforest. Money from all the room tea bags goes directly to this and we collect coupons from the breakfast tea to help this charity as well. For more information see www.rainforest-alliance.org.

- We also serve Taylor's coffee which supports its coffee growers in Columbia, Oranguatang coffee and other small indpendant coffee growers - to maximise taste as well as support the environment
- We finished putting on the new roof in August (2012) and put in double the required insulation - this will help with energy lost through the roof.
- We have found and are now using a company that uses 100% recycled paper for our business cards.
- We are also now using 100% recycled black bags for our rubbish. - as well as moving to trade recycling for anything that can be recycled.
- All our room bin bags are biodegradable
- In room fridges are energy efficient and turned off when not in use.
