A good friend of mine is a fan of everything Masham (a village local to my native Harrogate) put me onto this author as primarily an artist who has branched out into illustrated books. The Penhill Giant is Ian Scott Massie's first foray into Children's literature and we feel with his heartwarming interpretation of the old Yorkshire dales story as well as the relevant and detailed illustrations bring the story to life. The story I would say is suitable for the 7's and under and would be good for either a parent reading to a small child or as a starter reader for an older child. The story is set in Sunny Wensleydale here cows seem to go missing periodically and sightings of a giant are terrifying the natives! One day a small girl is caught in the rain and the Giant takes her in - leading to cups of tea, meetings with the locals and the solution of what really happened to the cows! There are also strong themes of waggy dogs, cheese, cake and the importance of good manners. ISBN 978-1-909260-05-4 and they can be ordered direct from the Masham Gallery http://www.mashamgallery.co.uk/masham-gallery-press.html
