Elderflower Festival We are one of the only commercial growers of Organic Elderflower in the UK and we use the flowers to make our award winning cordial.
There are so many wonderful ways to use Elderflower – come along and find out more!
Bushcraft Demonstrations There will be Bushcraft demonstrations all day from ‘Big Hat Bushcamp’ including: matchless firelighting and shelter building. Weather permitting there might even be woodland games!
Bushcraft is a great way to learn about the outdoors in a fun environment. Brilliant for the whole family, come along and get a taste for survival!
Farm Animals Come and see our friendly flock of rare breed Teeswater sheep. Learn about the importance of sheep as part of our Organic farm rotation. Also you can hear about the Teeswater wool which makes a high quality yarn.
Bakery Delights! The Side Oven bakery will be open all day busy baking specialist breads, croissant, cakes and sweetbuns. We will have a sitting area in the sunshine perfect to enjoy late breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas!
We will also be serving local Mr Moo icecream with our own homemade topping!
Our farm nature trail will be open all day for wildlife walks.

These are just two instances of great people who deliver a great product whilst promoting Yorkshire as it should be.
One of the areas Deliciously Yorkshire is keen to promote is their Breakfast Scheme of which we are a member – each participant must have at least 6 items within their breakfast offer which are sourced within the boundaries of Yorkshire. For ourselves we are proud to serve Harrogate Honey, Muesli from Driffield, Bacon from Wetherby, Sausages from the local butcher who sources his wares entirely from Nidderdale and are made entirely from pork. We are also pleased to add to our selection from October 2014 Organic free range milk, Butter and eggs from the lovely people at Acorn Dairy and we also get our jam and preserves from The Fruity Kitchen in York, our rapeseed oil comes from wharfe valley farms who make fabulous varieties of oils for cooking and salads.
Harrogate’s new Big Bike Bash to ride into town on 20-21 June
Harrogate Borough Council has today announced details of a new cycling festival which will be held in the district this summer.
The ‘Big Bike Bash’, which is a joint venture between the council and Pennine Events, will take place in Harrogate on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June and will see cycling fever returning to the town a year after the district hosted the Tour de France Grand Départ.
The weekend’s programme will include a number of competitive and leisurely cycling events for both professional and amateur cyclists. A lively entertainment village will also be located on Harrogate’s famous Stray, next to the finish line of the first stage of the 2014 Tour de France.
On Saturday, a closed road circuit will be created around the town centre finishing with the same uphill sprint along Parliament Street, which marked victory for Marcel Kittel and disaster for Mark Cavendish.
The course will be opened to the public in the afternoon allowing cyclists to ride the route with its tight turns and climbs, before elite male and female teams from around the country compete in criterion races – multi-lap races, which offer the same excitement, thrills and possibly spills as last year’s Tour de France.
On Sunday morning, there will be three organised rides offering cyclists of all ability levels the opportunity to get out on their bike.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy the festival atmosphere within the event village, which will offer live music, entertainment and cycling themed fun.
Harrogate Borough Council Leader, Councillor Richard Cooper said: “Last year’s Tour de France Grand Départ proved to be an immense success for the district and illustrated just how good a show we could put on for both residents and visitors.
“It is fitting that a year after the Tour de France visited our district, we should mark the occasion with the Big Bike Bash, a weekend of cycling celebration.
“Whether you cycle or not, the Big Bike Bash will offer something for everyone - from thrilling cycling action to fantastic music. Cyclists will have the opportunity to ride the route, before watching some of the best cyclists in the UK battle it out to win this inaugural race. And once the race is over, the fun will continue in the event village.
“We are keen to involve the local community in this event and would encourage any local businesses that would like to be involved to get in touch. We would also like to hear from local riding clubs who would be interested in working with us to help us create a cycling festival to remember.”

New Launch: ‘Easter Family Bake’
Side Oven bakery have launched a brand new seasonal breadmaking course designed specifically for families.
‘Easter Family Bake’ – Thursday 2nd April, 1:30pm till 4:00pm
This new course is for the whole family and the focus will be on learning and enjoying baking breads together. We will be covering a range of simple breads including the old favourite Easter buns. A great fun afternoon baking session for children and adults. The course is suitable for children over the age of 5 and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Jessica Sellers of the Side Oven commented: “In launching our ‘Easter Family Bake’ we wanted to bring together families and show them how fun and easy breadmaking can be. It really is something that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
The Side Oven breadmaking experience is being part of our working bakery and therefore numbers are kept low.
In the last 6 months we have also launched a range of specialist courses which have become very popular. These include:
‘Working with Spelt’ - we are one of the only growers of Organic Spelt Wheat in the North of England. Spelt flour is fast becoming a new alternative to standard milling wheat flour due to the claimed health benefits attached to it.
‘Party Breads with a hint of Italy’ – we cover a wide range of breads including different types of doughs, methods and some wonderful flavours.

The Side Oven Story
Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, Carr House Farm is the home of the Side Oven Bakery, where the Sellers family have lived and worked for five generations.
Provenance is our passion.
A wide range of cereals are grown on our Organic farm which following harvest are taken to the mill house where they are milled using a traditional stone ground mill.
We use a traditional wood burning oven in the bakery fuelled with timber from the farm. We find the gentle heat from the ebbing fire gives a wonderful depth to the flavour of our products.

Sunday the 3rd of May will see a new addition to the race - an option open to the general public -- see below for registration details.
The Tour de Yorkshire Ride will give cyclists the chance to ride the route just hours before the pros race, but unlike the pros, you get to choose your distance! Three distance options are available for the sportive, from 50km, 108km or 140km routes. A women-only Cycletta sportive will also take place along the 50km route.
The event is being endorsed and supported by five-time Tour de France winner, Bernard Hinault, who will be giving sportive riders tips. Participants in the sportive will cross the same finish line as the pro riders and a winners’ ceremonies will take place on the Tour de Yorkshire podium.
The sportive will be held on the final day of the Tour de Yorkshire, Sunday 3rd May just hours before the pro race starts. The amatours race will leave Leeds those taking on the 140km long route will climb Pool Bank and head towards Sowerby Bridge. They will join the pro route at Mytholmroyd and up the 2014 Tour de France King of the Mountains Côte De Oxenhope Moor, which will be taken in the opposite direction, a real test of stamina with over 6.7 kilometres of near continuous climbing. Shortly after riders will travel through Haworth the same as La Tour.
Riders will climb 150 metres from Laycock to Sutton-in-Craven, before reaching the villages of Addingham and Ilkley. Riders on the long and medium routes will take on the Cow and Calf Climb, before the East Chevin Climb, after which cyclists will need all their remaining energy to climb the short but very steep Black Hill Road. The Tour de Yorkshire Ride culminates back at Roundhay Park where cyclists will be presented with their medal.

Entries will officially open on Thursday 4 February at 9am.

Happy to report we are just about finished! as you can see from the final picture its looking good. You have to admit its a vast improvement on what was there previously.
8oz Sweet shortcrust Pastry
8oz fresh curds (approx.)
2 1/2 fl. Oz Cream
2 eggs separated
2 oz caster sugar
juice and grated rind of 1 lemon
Set oven to 350F or mark 4. grease about 16 small tins (like fairy cake tins) Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut out circles with a cutter and line the tins. rub the curds through a coarse sieve into a bowl and beat in the cream, egg yolks, sugar, a few drops of vanilla essence and the lemon juice and rind. Beat the egg whites stiffly and carefully fold into the mixture. Put a spoonful of mixture into each patty case and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until set and golden. Turn out on to a wire rack to cool. To make curds see Yorkshire Curd Tart.
