Baltzersen's joined the independent café scene in September 2012 and has proved popular with both locals and visitors with its Scandinavian inspired menu and décor - walk through the doors and you are greeted by the lush smell of coffee and scrummy pastries. We went for the tasting evening and I can highly recommend the Venison if that is on the menu for the week you are in Harrogate. The menu will change on a weekly basis so its best to check in for a copy or look on the web site for this week's selection. I would also mention that Baltzersens is dog friendly during the day which is unusual in Harrogate.

The Harrogate Dance Festival offers a weekend packed with workshops, master classes and events, celebrating popular dance past and present. Following the success of last year The Harrogate Dance Festival is back in town and this time it promises to be bigger and better than last year!! “This is not just an event for the seasoned dancer but for the beginner as well” says Artistic Director and founder James White. “This year we are opening the doors of The Royal Hall all day Saturday and offering FREE dance lessons to everyone who wants to come in. You don’t need a partner, just yourself and some enthusiasm to try”. For the more experienced dancer we have 6 times UK Dance Champions Richard Still & Morgan Hemphill teaching on Saturday as well as top professional instructors Karen Byron, Andrew Thrower and Amy Pedder. The Gala Dance Night at Harrogate’s splendid Royal Hall is undoubtedly the highlight of this fantastic festival. It will be more than a show, more than a dance, so expect a whole evening of live music and show dances as well as the opportunity to enjoy dancing in this historic venue. The UK Dance Champions will be performing excerpts from their live show along side Britain’s Got Talent Semi finalists, AJ & Chloe, who will dazzle us with their fast paced Latin routines. “For this occasion The Royal Hall is returning to its former glory as a premier music and dance venue,” Harrogate’s own professional entertainment and events company, White Diamond Entertainment, will also feature performances, including, amongst others, a Charleston and an Argentine Tango. When Harrogate-based Echo 42 Big Band, with their singers, take to the stage, it will be time for the audience to sit back and enjoy the rich sound of a wide repertoire of live dance music or a chance to dance on the magnificent maple sprung floor of the Grand Hall. Local based Choir, Rock Up & Sing, will also feature in the performance providing something special to partner our dance professionals. So, whether you enjoy watching, listening or dancing, this will be a unique and special occasion. From 7:30pm on Saturday 17th May 2014, the restored Royal Hall will resound to music and the floor of this historic setting will be yours to dance on. Seats are allocated with tickets and the whole floor of the Grand Hall will be available for dancing. Info@whitediamondentertainment.co.uk Tel: 07977 042970 Owned and run by local artist Josie Beszant, the gallery is a magnet for visitors to the beautiful market town of Masham - which is only a short drive from Harrogate and makes an excellent start to a day in the Dales. This informal and inviting gallery sells work by over 80 artists and craftspeople including Ian Scott Massie, Hester Cox and Janis Goodman. You will find an astounding selection of high quality individual pieces often unavailable anywhere else.
Masham Gallery is where you’ll unearth gifts for people who have everything, unusual ceramics, paintings and handmade prints as well as a range of jewellery, toys and gifts. Also offered is a fabulous framing service so you can get everything done under one roof. I would also say that with their focus on finding and nurturing local artists you will truly find something unique when you walk through the door.
Josie and Ian Scott Massie also teach in the fabulous Artison program founded by Gaynor Pearson and Sue Palin who believe art can be something everyone can and should try. This being so Gaynor and Sue had the idea of starting the program giving anyone who feels inspired (no matter their skill level) the opportunity to try anything from Sewing for Beginners to Making Willow Birds - for the full program of classes and times see - http://artison.co.uk/?page_id=5978 - There is also a range of skill levels so please read carefully before booking. A day at ArtisOn is an experience – “you time” where you take home more than simply what you’ve created. Treat yourself or come with friends, meet people with similar interests, be inspired! Wonderful homemade lunches are also provided as well as great tea, coffee and cakes so that your creativity will also be well fed! If you can muster a group they can schedule a date to suit you, tailor the workshop to your group and offer you a discount too. http://www.mashamgallery.co.uk/ Masham Gallery, 24 Market Place, Masham, North Yorkshire, HG4 4EB phone 01765 689554 Adventure Activity
